MSHWY02 by Studio Mary Lennox
For the design of MSHWY02, Studio Mary Lennox utilizes JOV’s technical crafting capabilities to recreate the underside of an oyster mushroom. The distinctive pattern of irregular ridges flowing outward towards a fluffy, thick border is achieved with differing levels of pile height. The material is a mix of merino wool and mercerized Egyptian cotton.
MSHWY (pronounced MS Highway)—which is an acronym for Mycorrhizal Super Highway—is a collection from Studio Mary Lennox that draws inspiration from the collaborative qualities of certain mushrooms’ ability to connect to one another through a chemical information network of sorts (the Mycorrhizal Network). Through symbiosis with other species in their environment, they can encourage a collaboration of different life forms within an ecosystem, comprising the intricate and complex organic system known as the ‘Mycelium Superhighway’ or the “Wood Wide Web”.
